Wal-Mart: Hands Off Our Rocklands!
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
95% of the unique & endangered Pine Rockland ecosystem in Florida has been destroyed, but the developer Peter Cummings & Walmart want to pave over the rest of it! Sign this petition to tell Miami's mayor & senators, Wal-Mart, and Peter Cummings himself that WE WANT ROCKLANDS, NOT ANOTHER WALMART. Find a vacant lot instead!
We will NEVER support a Walmart that destroys the rarest ecosystem in our state!
Pine Rocklands are the rarest ecosystem in Florida, and home to several species of endangered animals, insects, and plants, including the Miami Tiger Beetle, Eastern Indigo Snake, Bartram’s Scrub Hairstreak butterfly , Florida Bonneted bat, Florida brickell-bush, Deltoid spurge, and tiny polygala. All have been confirmed to live on this particular stretch of rocklands, called the Richmond Pine Complex.
The South Dade Richmond Pineland Complex is the largest unprotected patch of endangered pine rockland in the state, located between the Turnpike and the 825 expressway along 152nd street.
