Wal-Mart and H&M: Please help the workers of Kingsland Garment Factory in Cambodia
This petition made change with 298 supporters!
We are trying to get as many signatures as possible to petition Wal-Mart and H&M to help approximately 200 workers from Kingsland Garment Factory in Cambodia, a clothing producer which supplied underwear for Wal-Mart and H&M, who have recently been left unemployed and many homeless as the factory was suddenly closed in December. The factory owner has abandoned the factory and fled the country. These 200 employees have not been paid their full salary for the last 4 months and many of them now face eviction from their homes and starvation.
The workers are currently sleeping outside the factory day and night since the closure to prevent the owners from removing the machines. Many of them are women, some of whom are pregnant, and are frequently facing harassment on the street. They are in desperate need of help and we hope that this petition will persuade these large brands to help these 200 workers and in turn start taking responsibility for the workers and factories that produce clothing for their stores.
We demand that Wal-Mart and H&M:
1. Work together with Kingsland Garment Cambodia Ltd. to ensure all wages and benefits are paid to all employees of the factory.
2. Ensure Kingsland Garment Cambodia Ltd. complies fully with Cambodian Labour Law.
3. Take action through contract agreements to help improve the working conditions of their suppliers and ensure a living wage to all factory workers.
