Smart lunch is a 50-minute lunch period designed to provide students extra time to eat and go off campus, meet with teachers, work on schoolwork, make up quizzes and tests, and participate in other activities. This opportunity was available to Wakefield High School students until it was limited to one day per week in 2018. Now that COVID-19 and in-person school have returned, we don't have it at all.

When smart lunch was a part of our routine, many high school students were able to take advantage of the extra time to receive one-on-one instruction that they wouldn't normally get. We were also able to complete work in order to be prepared for a busy night of extracurricular activities that we may have. It also served as a stress relief when we had free time.

Currently, students are on a block schedule with a short lunch and are expected to take care of these things on their own time. This is hard given that many have jobs, clubs, and other commitments.

Our school would benefit from smart lunch if the opportunities it provides were available again. With your help, we can make it happen.
