Meaghan Salz started this petition to Wake County Public School System and

Parents!!! Caregivers!!! Adults!!!

It’s time to take action and protect our children in the Wake County Public School System.

There was a book read aloud to 5th graders by a teacher. The book is named “George” by Alex Gino.

It references porn, sex, dirty magazines, among many other mature topics.

The story is about a boy named George who has a secret that he is transgender and is Melissa.

The issue I am having is not at all that it is a transgender story, but more about the sexual and inappropriate content that our children are being exposed to.

Here are some excerpts from the book.
……….

“She immersed her body in the warm water and tried not to think about what was between her legs, but there it was, bobbing in front of her.

"That's it." Scott grinned, oblivious to George's panic. "That's my little bro! Growing up and looking at dirty magazines!"

"Hey, Rick. It looks like someone's finally start to grow some balls."

There was nothing George dreaded more than when boys talked about what was in her underpants.

"Dude, I thought you had porn or something in there, so I took a peek."

"So, like, do you want to"--he made a gesture with two fingers like a pair of scissors--"go all the way?" George squeezed her legs together. "Maybe someday," she said.

"I didn't even know you had any skirts," said George. "I don't wear them to school. Boys are dirty and try to look up them."

Melissa took off her own underwear, stepped into Kelly's, and pulled it up under her skirt. Other than the coolness of the fabric on her skin, she could barely tell she was wearing anything at all.

She lifted her skirt to see her underwear, covered in tiny red hearts. She pulled it down, sat, and peed; just like a girl.…..”

How is this appropriate for elementary school students who haven’t even had sex ed yet?

We have to sign permission forms for just about everything for our kids and yet this can be shared with them without us even knowing????

Although parents were told in advance that the book was going to be read, there was no information given to parents that there were sensitive, sexual, and explicit content in the book.

Parents did not receive a permission form or an option to “opt out”. The teacher was told to stop reading the book after students told their parents. The book still remains in the teachers classroom library for students to read in their own!!!!!!

This book should be banned from EVERY elementary school in the country.

Let’s start with Wake County.

Let’s keep the classroom a safe environment for our children.

Let’s let parents have the right to decide what’s appropriate content for their elementary school children.

Sign the petition to remove this book from Wake County Elementary schools.
