Cal poly is requiring us to pay $65 per person to permit us to do the school-run event of Design Village. This is a required and significant part of our architecture studio curriculum. Many look forward to this hands-on, exciting opportunity to explore the possibilities of architecture. How can the school require us to pay to participate in something we are already paying to participate in? We all are enrolled students, and we pay tuition. Why should we be required to pay to participate in a required part of this class?

For contestants outside of the school, coming to our campus and competing, using our facilities and faculty, asking for a fee is a fair solution, but we, as students, already pay for these things.

We are not asking for reimbursement for the thousands of dollars that will inevitably be spent on our projects, but we are merely asking not to have to pay, to pay, for something we already pay for.

Faculty, please rethink the necessity of this and consider how it may unnecessarily, and negatively affect students, especially those who cannot afford such a random and unnecessary fee. Waive this fee and do not cause a single student to have to stress over adding this unnecessary expense.
