Staff parking is becoming a daily problem for Waitematā District Health Board nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and other staff.  With plans for further hospital expansion, it’s a looming crisis.

Not only do we have to pay for parking when we come to work at North Shore or Waitakere Hospital, there is now such a serious a shortage of spaces that some of us cannot even drive to work.

Being a healthcare professional is stressful enough.  Many of us are shift workers and we can do without adding to our stress because we can’t find a safe place to park the car at the hospitals we work at.

Waitematā District Health Board derives millions of dollars in income every year from its hospital parking facilities.  Waitematā District Health Board staff and patients pay for these parking services.

Waitematā District Health Board nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and other frontline staff need urgent resolution of this matter. Using public transport, walking and running to work are not always plausible solutions, particularly for those of us who are shift workers.

With a nursing shortage, you would think that the Waitematā District Health Board might take the issue seriously.

The income generated from the Waitematā District Health Board's parking facilities, should be used to provide transport and parking solutions for staff.
