- Our objective is to Close the Raglan Airfield.
- Waikato District Council has placed the recreational interests of non resident pilots over the health and safety of the local Raglan community.
- WDC has sacrificed public safety for the convenience of pilots.
- The public is now funneled across the most dangerous section of the airfield, the end of the runway by a new fence.. This has been the location of three accidents in the past five years. This is now a potential Kill Zone.
- The new fence discriminates against the elderly, disabled, the unwell and families with small children because of the added distance to the beach.
- WDC manipulated a 2019 CAA safety message to PILOTS to follow the rules as a pretext to end 78 years of safe public passage across the middle of the airfield directly to the beach.
- WDC created its own pseudo safety narrative that scapegoated the public and their dogs as pilot safety enemy #1.
- The 4ft high stock fence has failed to stop over 1,000 people who have climbed the fence as they walk to the beach.
- Pilots claim that using over $120,000.00 in local ratepayer funds is justified because a private airfield is no different from a swimming pool, park, rugby field, playground and public toilet. This is on top of the $100,000.00 in annual operational costs.
- In 2021 pilots contributed a measly $5,900.00 in $10 landing fees to the $220,000.00 public spend. Many pilots do not pay the $10 landing fee. The landing is being increased to $12.00 next year.
