Stop Wagga charging visiting private aircraft for parking

Council's plan to impose parking charges on visiting private/recreational light aircraft on top of existing landing charges (involving an increase of 50% in charges on average) will further inhibit visitation to the City by flyers. It will restrict the ongoing efforts of Wagga City Aero Club to run events and activities designed to bring other aviation organisations to Wagga Wagga thereby impacting on the viability of the club and the loss of economic activity for the City and region. Council's approach is directly at odds with its policy of providing free access, parking / camping and boat ramp services to visiting caravan and boat users. Why should private aircraft be treated differently, especially given the actual costs of the airport services provided to light aircraft are minimal and comparable to the costs for boats and caravans elsewhere in the City. Wagga Wagga City Council should remove the parking charge for light aircraft up to 2,500 KG MTOW operated in the private category. We want to bring more visitors to our great city and foster the continued general aviation activity at our airport.
