Dear VTAC,

I have created this petition because I believe that any art subject should be scaled up. Because it involves students making a portfolio and that can generally be really stressful. I’m an art student myself and from personal experience, I have seen the majority of my friends falling behind in folio subjects because of prioritising for their upcoming sacs and other commitments, I can’t say I completely agree with them. However it sounds like not only they would have to put into a lot of effort into their folio in order to achieve a high study score, they also could possibly snowball down hill really easily if they aren’t up to date and I can imagine that a lot of them would feel so stressed especially that it scales down a heap amount unlike most other subjects; it doesn’t scale down that much. I understand that it applies to every single subject, but I strongly believe that any students doing art would have a disadvantage because their folio’s overall percentage will contribute a lot to their overall study score and therefore it may negatively skew their overall ATAR in multiple ways.

The purpose of me creating this petition is to attempt to make other art students’ life easier and reduce the pressure by simply changing the scaling system for the art subject.

Even if you can not make the subject scale up in any way, it would be great to not make it scale down that much. It’s totally fine and I completely understand that you guys are unable to make these changes, but I really hope that you guys can take my suggestion into consideration and maybe show a little more empathy for us. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Lucy, year 12 student.
