Alabama Segregation Ban in The School Systems
Alabama Segregation Ban in The School Systems
It is unknown to a multitude of people that Alabama still includes racial segregation in schools within its state constitution. Although Brown vs. Board of Education makes it impossible for segregation within school systems to actually occur, the offensive language towards African Americans within this constitution is obscene and discriminating. This offensive language makes it possible for people to look down on African American children within schools, and also allows for people to believe that subjecting these children to this language is okay. Many people fear changing this part of the constitution because they believe that it is “symbolic” of Alabama, but there is nothing symbolic about this issue for it is an ugly tattoo on the state that was federally eliminated many years ago. All children within a school system should have the right to an equal education, and to be treated the same no matter what their skin color or culture is. I have created a social media hashtag, so that people may retweet it and spread the word that this issue is still included within the Alabama Constitution. Once people become aware of this issue, then the hashtag will start to trend and actions will be taken from multiple forces at one time. We are the same, and we demand to be treated the same.
