GNSA Selection Criteria

Guru Nanak Sikh Academy have a selection process into their reception class which we feel is flawed. This flaw in the process has resulted in a number of children who already attend GNSA Nursery not getting a place in the Reception class, hence penalising the children for a flaw in the selection criteria and process. To further exbarate the issue, GNSA are unable to have a third reception class as per the previous year.
Many reading this, probably think this is just an issue with the Sikh community, and we should do away with faith schools. However GNSA is not just about teaching the Sikh faith, it is about teaching children Sikh values, which are no different to the 10 commandments or the values of any faith, which all revolve around Humanity, before religion. Our requests below are just the foundations, of what we would like to achieve long term. I hope you will support us making these initial changes, which will hopefully assist us making further changes not only at the school, but the local and extended community.
For 2017/2018 we would like GNSA to start a third reception class as per the previous year and priortise the allocation of places to those who already attend the school.
Also from 2018/19 we wish for GNSA to change their Nursery selection criteria to the following in order of priority: i) Children with special needs ie in care or with a disability; ii) 10% allocation to children outside of the school faith; iii) children who have siblings currently studying at the school; iv) children within the catchment area of the school v) children of the Sikh faith. We feel this criteria is no different to that of other faith schools, and will stop future occurenses of the above issue.
