My brother Jimmy Townsend is incarcerated at El Reno Federal Institution in Oklahoma. He contracted covid 19 from a guard whilst the prison was on lockdown (no visitors) due to covid.  My brother has asthma and other underlying conditions. I called to check on him daily to receive the same message everyday, "we can't tell you anything about this inmates medical condition". So I begin to ask what precautions are they taking to keep the inmates and guards safe from covid and if an inmate catch covid how do they handle it.  I was told " we do exactly what the state mandate suggest and if an inmate contracts the virus we quarantine them. I even called his counselor and left several messages some lengthy and some brief but each contained my phone number... never received a call from her. 

So after my brother survived he said they gave him water and told him to rest. I had covid and water and rest did not lessen the pain and agony I was in. I was hospitalized 6 days and I thought about my brother the entire time being in a place where you are treated less than an animal. How did he survive?  His crime isn't violent at all! Prisoners have family that love them but the prison system don't see it that way. 

I would like to see him home early or even on house arrest for the duration of his time.  All non violent prisoners should receive a stay a option to be on tether/house arrest. It would certainly help control the spread of this virus and over crowded prisons.
