This photo is of the car, that hit the car, that was pushed through the intersection nearly hitting 2 families walking to school.

There is a big safety concern at the corner of Antigua Blvd and Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Tierrasanta. There needs to be a change!

Children and families are nearly struck by vehicles walking to and from school on a daily basis. Some of these children are elementary age children walking without an adult.

1. This intersection is only .25 miles or so from Vista Grande Elementary in Tierrasanta. Clairemont Mesa Blvd is a 45 mph zone here, even during the times children are crossing for school.

2. At this intersection both lanes of drivers making a left turn and those making right turn to head west bound on Clairemont Mesa are given a green light at the same time the walk signal tells pedestrians to cross, in their turn path. This happens with those going east bound as well. More often than not, drivers do not yield to the families and children crossing. Sometimes they even drive between groups.

How does it get fixed?

1. Make the intersection a known school zone.

2. Change the timing so that all lights are red while the crossing signal is lit for pedestrians.

3. Add a turn light.

4. Have some type of an official adult crossing guard, monitor and direct traffic at these times.

All children have the right to walk safely to school!
