Why this petition matters

Started by Ushass Panicker

I have been in the recent times been seeing a lot of visitor visa (subclasss 600) being refused.  Most of these applicants are old parents of children who are settled in Australia, brothers/sisters and other immediate family members of Australian residents / citizens.  It is such a shame that family of Australian citizens or permanent residents or even temporary workers cannot come on a holiday to Australia.  I have noticed that the department of home affiars or Australian High Commission especially India has been off late sending applications lodged from India to China for processing.  I have personally noticed many a mistakes made by the assessing officers where in they refuse the visa and give vague reasons like "More specifically, I have considered your economic circumstances and note that you have provided some evidence of your financial standing, however the amounts/assets cannot be considered significant in the context of overall economic/employment conditions and cost of living in India. As such, I do not consider that you have strong economic incentives to return India at the end of your proposed stay in Australia." this was a refusal for an applicant who is the father of Australian resident and the applicants age is over 60 years.  Though all necessary documents were submitted, this was the outcome.  Applicant is in India, sponsor in Australia but application assessed and finalised in Shanghai.  I would like to start this petition to bring this to the notice of the authorities.  I have tried lodging a complaint and explaing this to the department but with no luck.

I would like similarly affected people to join me in getting the officials to take notice and take action and train their assessing officers to check applications properly and assess them with due deligence.
