NJ Green started this petition to Virginia State University

With the recent update made by Virginia State University administration pushing back the move in date has left plenty of students in a terrible predicament . Many college students struggle to find adequate, affordable housing options near their campus, and at least 56,000 college students are homeless. Student’s have purchased flights , some have even quit their job. The new move in date has put many student’s and their families in a tough spot. This decision has already made many of first time freshman student's to withdrawal from  attending the University, not only that many returning students have transferred to another university or community college. This decision that the administration done will probably make the enrollment decline. Therefore , we are asking that Virginia State University, either refund all students that paid their housing deposit before May 1st, to receive their refund until the move in date . The next option, the student body is asking that the Virginia State University administration to change the date,  to August 20 for Incoming Freshman , and September 1st for returning students. The student body at VSU realize that the administration wants everyone to get tested, and to do what it’s safety. That is still a great option , but we’re also asking that they test everyone when the students arrive, and the students that are tested positive will all be moved to a different dormitory. This will keep the online classes going until September 4. If the administration takes this into consideration, you still have the 14-day gap in between until the face to face classes begin. Once all students have moved in have their test packet already in their room , or at the day of signing in everyone then will receive their own test packet. By Virginia state university making this decision this has left many students at a cross road , many of them have quit their jobs , booked flights , and a lot more. We ask that the administration at Virginia state take this petition into consideration. Many college enrollment status has surged, For on campus housing construction has not matched increased enrollment. Four-year colleges are much more likely to offer on-campus housing than are two-year institutions. New construction financed through public-private partnerships often is less affordable than existing housing options. Although we know that students’ housing affects their success in college, there are major gaps in research and national data on the issue. A number of federal and institutional policies may leave students with unmet need. For example, colleges appear to systematically underestimate students’ off-campus living costs. Innovative programs such as Single Stop USA and the Tacoma Community College Housing Assistance Program could offer models for housing interventions for housing insecure students. We ask that everybody share this petition and think about it very seriously.
