Ban racist naming of USA lands & the usage of govt property/tax money to honor racists.

0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!

U.S. organizations and governments are now removing statues of known confederate soldiers, slave owners, and racists. These actions are long overdue. Such artifacts are intended to honorably immortalize terrorists that championed hatred, bigotry, and Black genocide. The work must not stop with simply removing their statues.

We, the American people, should not permit the usage of government property, American lands, or American bodies of water to promote white supremacy. This practice advocates the systemic oppression of Black Americans and other historically marginalized minority groups. It should be a crime for any public official or American government entity to do so, especially using public tax dollars or public land/property.

In 2020, Black Americans are still forced to see covert racism via the names of slave owners, racists, and/or confederate soldiers on their birth certificate and various forms of identification within their address. Local departments providing government services within the jurisdiction of these locations bear the same infamous names, including law enforcement agencies. In addition, hundreds of American locations have overtly racist naming (for example: Dead Negro Draw, Texas). This is cruel, traumatic, humiliating, and exacerbates ongoing racial injustices committed against Black men and women specifically.

If #BLACKLIVESMATTER to officials and government agencies addressed in this petition (more to be added, including local governments):

1. PASS FEDERAL & STATE LEGISLATION BANNING THE USAGE OF RACIAL SLURS/EPITHETS IN THE NAMING OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY, AMERICAN LANDS, AND AMERICAN BODIES OF WATER. (OVERT RACISM)

2. PASS FEDERAL & STATE LEGISLATION BANNING THE USAGE OF PUBLIC TAX DOLLARS, PUBLIC LAND, AND/OR GOVERNMENT PROPERTY TO PAY TRIBUTE TO SLAVE OWNERS, RACISTS, AND/OR CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS. (COVERT RACISM)

3. ELIMINATE OVERT & COVERT RACISM DESCRIBED IN BULLETS 1 & 2 FROM AMERICAN LANDS BY THE END OF 2020.

4. RENAME THESE LANDS IN HONOR OF BLACK AMERICANS OR AMERICANS REPRESENTING HISTORICALLY OPPRESSED MINORITY GROUPS.

On January 1, 2021 no American lands should be named in promotion of white supremacy.
