Many potbellied pigs are being mistreated and abused because they are considered livestock. Contrary to that belief , potbellied pigs aren’t the same as a farm animal. They are of an exotic origin. They have different climate , food and medical needs than typical swine. We are trying to change how the state views these animals so they are protected under a broader umbrella of the law. We ask that Virginia recognize these animals as companion animals and / or domestic pets.
