Keep open Virginia Aviation Museum

Please sign this petition and share it on all of your social media accounts, such as Facebook, and forward it to your e-mail lists, aviation and history related blogs and web sites. We need to impress upon our state leaders the importance of saving the VAM and how popular a cultural institution it is.

The Virginia Science Museum recently closed the Virginia Aviation Museum with little advance warning and without the concurrence of the Virginia Aviation Historical Society. The Society created the museum and ran it for many years before the state-supported Science Museum made a contract with Virginia's airport commission allowing them to arbitrarily close the Aviation Museum. Weak reason for closing was that the Aviation Museum needed extensive repairs that they could not justify. That is simply untrue as the Science Museum's own engineers concluded that the building would be good for at least ten more years. The Aviation Museum has ample funds to make the repairs and to operate the museum. A contract should be made between the Aviation Museum and the airport authorities to keep this gem in Richmond open so it could remain for the foreseeable future.
