Although these horrific devices are banned in over 85 countries, steel leg traps are still legal in much of the United States including Virginia. The suffering of any unsuspecting animal caught in these traps is immense and inhumane. The trap itself causes injury when it slams violently shut on the leg, cutting off the blood flow. More injury is caused when the animal tries to pry himself free. Some animals become so desperate they will chew their own legs off to break free. This is cruel and unnecessary torture that should be outlawed in all states, as it is in much of the world. Please sign this petition and let the Virginia General Assembly know that Virginians do not condone or support this kind of inhumane torture in the Commonwealth.
