Malique Hibner started this petition to Virginia Beach Police Department

Allow Skateboarding in Virginia Beach! Skateboarding is only permitted west of Pacific Ave. (3+ streets away from the beach). As a longboard enthusiast, I was very excited to come to Virginia Beach with a friend (who also longboards), as I’ve heard they have very smooth boardwalks and a bike lane. But on our second day here, 4 police officers stopped me and my friend, stating any kind of Skateboard (even longboarding, although they are two different things) is not permitted on the Boardwalk, the Bike Lane, Atlantic Ave., or Pacific Ave. This is very unfair, as I have seen many longboarders, skateboarders, etc. riding on the Boardwalk, many riding past police without getting stopped. Many say this law is for safety, but skateboarders pose no more of a safety threat then scooters, bikers, and roller skaters. We do get why we shouldn’t skateboard on the boardwalk, but not permitting skateboarding on the bike lane on the boardwalk and Atlantic Ave is extremely unfair to longboard enthusiasts. It makes matters worse that stores sell longboards and penny boards on Atlantic Ave., a Street where skateboarding is banned. Skateboarders aren’t different from others, treat us the same as other excited Beach-goers with legitimate ways of transportion! Help us in making Virginia Beach a better, more accessible place for responsible skateboarders!
