There is a Confederate Monument at the corner of Princess Anne Road and North Landing Road in Virginia Beach. Slave auctions used to take place at this location in front of the Princess Anne Courthouse. The courthouse has been moved, but this monument is still there today. State code § 15.2-1812 addresses the limitations of the localities in removing monuments erected AFTER the code was enacted in 1998, but this monument was erected long before 1998. The Virginia Beach City Council can removal this monument. Please sign the petition requesting City Council and Mayor Sessoms remove this monument and place in a museum or other appropriate setting.
