Village Voice Advertisers: Pull Advertisement until Backpage.com Adult Section is Shut Down

Companies who have dropped Village Voice Media:  Starbucks, Macy's, Crown Imports, MillerCoors, AT&T, LiveNation, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, NYC Film Forum, High Times, Children's Wish Foundation International, Relativity Media, REI, American Airlines, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Buddy Stubbs, Harley Davidson, Harkins Theatre, Park Avenue Church, Carnegie Hall, NY Public Radio, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, IKEA, Miami Dolphins, H&M, Best Buy, T-Mobile, US Bank, LG, ASPCA, SF MOMA, IHOP, Lincoln Center, Guggenheim Museum, Seattle Art Museum

On Backpage.com, there are countless adults and minors being trafficked every day through the ads posted. Traffickers may falsify photos, ages, and certainly identity, or have other adults or minors 'available' as an addition or alternative to the person posted. It is extremely easy for them to circumvent any existing and lacking laws and policies that prohibit this. Although Village Voice cooperates with police with investigation, there are so few that are actually captured per the hundreds of adults and children that are exploited every single night, who are forced to suffer through 5 to 20 acts of intruisive, illlicit sexual acts, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (minus days where the victim has been too ill or injured from abuse to perform).

I'm addressing this to the following top advertisers: American Apparel, Cirque de Soleil, Disney, Lululemon, Warner Brothers, Whole Foods, LA Philharmonic, foursquare and Hooters.

Each advertiser addressed in this is considered prominent among Village Voice supporters and in America at large. You all make such an impact on our society, our culture. With that influence comes grave responsibility. Your decisions impact thousands of people every day. This not only includes your products, but also the principles you stand on and advocate.

So, I urge you to consider, in the comfort of the fruit of your labors, those who have been forced into a life of modern day sexual slavery. You, from right where you are, have the opportunity to make a vital impact on their lives, their futures. You will be able to say that you and your company has good moral conscience for the well-being of all, and you will have stood up for those who can't stand up for themselves.

As an avid movie-goer enjoying Warner Brothers and Disney pictures so many times, I would be more than proud to say that you all took a stand for these precious ones, and I would certainly be a far more reaching advertiser for you in the process!!
