Glyphosate-based Herbicides are being used on our children's play areas in our Village of Varna.  Glyphosate is a known carcinogen and causes many other health issues to humans and animals alike. Children are especially affected.

We as a community petition for the use of these harmful chemicals on play areas to be ceased immediately. Below are some research-based reasons as to why this needs to be done. 

• The National Academy of Sciences reports that children are more susceptible to chemicals than adults. 
• EPA concurs that children take in more pesticides relative to body weight than adults and have developing organ systems that are more vulnerable and less able to detoxify toxic chemicals. 
• Infant/Toddler crawling, exploring behavior and proximity to the ground account for greater potential than adults for dermal and inhalation exposure to contaminates. 
• Researchers have found that use of pesticides/herbicides may increase the risk of developing asthma and exacerbate lung conditions and even trigger asthma attacks. 

We as a community petition for alternative weed-control to be used. Alternative methods include but are not limited to the following: 

• Community Clean-Up Days
• Volunteers
• Varna Women's Club
• High School Students at MHS need community service hours to graduate
