Say No to Sunbury Commerce Park

The Village of Sunbury is hosting a public hearing on Monday, October 25th at 6:35pm to discuss the development of Sunbury Commerce Park: a project that includes three restaurant/retail structures as well as the addition of 135 apartment housing units to the Sunbury Meadows Drive and Granville Street area.
The housing development portion of this project is a serious concern for the current residents of adjacent single-family home neighborhoods including The Communities at Sunbury and The Retreat. This development will significantly impact the accessibility of the current neighborhood by increasing vehicle and pedestrian traffic, placing an additional burden on the school district population, and limiting the opportunity for community space in an area that is central to the broader Sunbury community. Traffic patterns should be taken strongly into consideration as well, as the four-way stop at Granville St and Sunbury Meadows Drive is often very busy – increasing vehicular traffic at this scale is unwise.
This area is simply not the right choice for housing development of any kind. Sunbury is a close community and while we are happy to be part of a growing area, we desire to be thoughtful and intentional about the ways in which we develop this area. The residents signing this petition demand relocation of the housing portion of this project to an alternate location in the city development plans.
