To designate St. Marks Church and former parsonage in RVC Landmark Designation

We are shocked and disappointed to hear that the owner of the property at 220 Hempstead Ave plans to demolish this historic home and build 4-6 homes on the lot as well as a dead end street.

Not only do we think it is a detriment to the neighborhood to add these additional homes and a dead end street to the property, we too are surprised that a home with such rich historic value would be torn down for one individual's financial gain. This home is one of very few left that were built in the 19th century and represent our early history as a village. We are losing so much of the open space, history and beauty of our village with predatory building that is being allowed by our village.

We are requesting permission for the Town of Hempstead to review the application for historic landmark designation for both the former parsonage at 220 Hempstead Avenue and church next door to protect them and prevent the demolition.
