In the spring of 2020, residents asked the Village Board to approve single family homes the right to raise 6 laying hens (no roosters or other poultry or farm animals). It was voted YES to move to the next step, which was the Building and Planning Commission to decided on specifics.   COVID happened and everything was tabled.   After much pressure from residents, the Board held another “listening session” but took a second vote and voted down the right for residents to have laying hens.  This was done without discussion from the residents and completely ignored the Boards previous decision to move forward.   We are asking that residents be allowed the right to vote themselves, rather than it being a unilateral decision passed by 4 board members.   Signing this petition DOES NOT say you agree with allowing chickens.   It simply says you agree with the people’s individual right to be heard.   Keep in mind, that it it passes, and you do not want them in your neighborhood, you have the right to ask for your individual neighborhood covenants be amended to ban allowing chickens.   In addition, if it passes, not everyone wants to have chickens.   We just want the right of the people to be able to decide individually.  In addition, strict regulations will be applied.
