Save the Bridge in Long Grove

This petition had 5,048 supporters

We the undersigned would like the Village of Long Grove to save the one-lane bridge over Buffalo Creek for the following reasons:

1. The Chicago area has many historic bridges, but it has strikingly few historic pin-connected truss bridges like the Long Grove Covered Bridge, as indicated in Historic

2. The Long Grove Bridge was covered in 1972 in an effort to protect the trusses from deterioration and that cover was patterned after a historic bridge from New Hampshire.

3. The covered bridge has been identified as the logo of modern Long Grove and is a part of the fabric of this community since 1902 and we believe the bridge serves as a photographic and beautifying anchor to the downtown area.

4.Long Grove is a pedestrian friendly, walking town where people feel safe crossing the streets and often cross the bridge to go to the church and modifying the bridge with a second lane would detract from the historic nature of the bridge and add additional traffic to destroy the safety and environmental beauty of the Village.

Therefore, we urge the Long Grove Village President & Trustees to retain the integrity, historic value and one lane structure of the Long Grove Covered Bridge thereby maintaining the safety of the pedestrians crossing the local streets.
