Don’t turn East Prairie into a Fast Food Drive-Thru

Don’t turn East Prairie into a Fast Food Drive-Thru
A new drive-thru on East Prairie and Touhy is threatening our neighborhood. The old Long John Silver property is being rezoned to allow a fast food drive-thru only store concept that will operate 18 hours a day. With drive-thru ordering surging over the last year it could draw an average of 500 hundred cars a day. And allowing this traffic to exit heading west on Touhy will make this intersection even more dangerous.
But this drive-thru won’t just make traffic more dangerous. Drive-thru’s are bad for the environment and with drive-thru traffic spiking, so is the air, noise, and light pollution they bring. So what’ll the true cost be to our property values and our quality of life?
Having two of its property lines bordering with residential, this location is not suitable for a drive-thru. And the several variance requests required to make the site functional should be warning enough. But as of now, the planning commission is set to approve this rezoning.
PROTECT OUR VILLAGE: It may be great for profits but a drive-thru on East Prairie will be bad for the people who live near it. The board is set to vote on this issue Sept 9th and without hearing from us, the residence of the east prairie corridor, this rezoning may be approved. If you do not want to see more congestion, more accidents, more pollution, and lower property values, please sign the petition to deny PC-12-21 Special Approvals, today.
