We believe that dogs can be an appealing aspect of villages, and that allowing dogs at public parks would enhance Lansing’s appeal, especially to pet-owners. We also believe that pets and children can safely coexist in public spaces when proper precautions are met. We believe that restricting dogs at parks presents an undue difficulty for parents and guardians who are also pet-owners and who enjoy using the parks, especially the walking paths, for both their dog(s) and their child/children. We believe that by restricting dogs from parks in Lansing, many residents instead travel to nearby villages (i.e. Munster, IN; Highland, IN) to enjoy the public facilities where dogs are welcomed, and thereby miss opportunities to enjoy the beautiful parks of Lansing.
We therefore petition the Village of Lansing to allow leashed dogs at all public parks in the Village of Lansing, with the conditions that dog-owners keep their dog leashed at all times, and pick up their dog’s waste. This petition does not apply to dangerous dogs, and does not apply to Article II of the Village Ordinances which deal with the rules regarding dangerous dogs.
