Gina Marie started this petition to Village of Homewood and

Pesticides and weedkillers contain harmful chemicals that have documented side effects on human health and safety, particularly compromising the health of children who play in the parks and who attend the schools where these chemicals are periodically sprayed. Many of these chemicals (i.e. Roundup) have been banned in other countries for these reasons.

We are asking that the Villages of Homewood-Flossmoor, as well as the school districts and park districts of Homewood-Flossmoor cease the use of these harmful chemicals in public areas, as the documented side effects range from cancer to tainted food and water systems, and can even negatively impact the genes of future generations through our childrens' current exposure.

There are many alternatives to these chemicals, including regular white vinegar combined with dish soap and salt to get rid of weeds. There is also a popular lawn care company called Natural Lawn of America that uses natural methods to deter unwanted bugs. These alternatives are more affordable, environmentally-friendly, and most importantly, they are the safest option for the children in our community.

Please consider using these alternatives and other more natural methods before resorting to harmful herbicides and pesticides which contain chemicals that can do irreparable damage.

Thank you for listening to our concerns! We appreciate your time and would be happy to help you find an alternative that works for everyone!

Sincerely,

The Moms and Dads of Homewood-Flossmoor
