Homer Glen Backyard Chicken and Bee Ordinance Review

Homer Glen Backyard Chicken and Bee Ordinance Review
Homer Glen was founded on the belief of living with "Community and Nature...in Harmony.” Most residents live in the Village because of the rural feeling the community maintains.
In 2018 an ordinance was put in place, by the Village of Homer Glen, to regulate back yard chickens and bees. Currently this ordinance has been in place for a few years, with great success, and very few complaints. The issue the Village residents are having is, the ordinance only allows the keeping of backyard chickens and bees in a few zoning districts. We would like the Village to consider allowing more homes to keep back yard chickens and bees. Most of the homes keeping the backyard chickens are doing so as family's pets and to harvest the eggs.
Restricting the use in some zoning districts hinders the ability to keep these pets and raise your own food (eggs). The Village of Homer Glen currently has a lot of backyard chickens that are in violation of this ordinance. Most residents do not know that they are in violation of this ordinance. Some homeowners have received violations and removal notices, and others have not.
