Hinsdaleans for Historic Preservation Save These Homes started this petition to Village of Hinsdale

Attention Hinsdale, IL residents. The new owners of historically significant homes in Hinsdale are seeking demolition permits within the Robbins Historic District in Southeast Hinsdale. These applicants want to replace these iconic, non-landmarked homes with new construction.

If you care about the historic nature of town and the current rampant disregard to the history of the village, please make your opinion heard! The Village and the Historical Preservation Commission will have an easier time protecting these treasures if there is support from local residents who want to save these homes. It's been the indifference that allows new owners to think that they can do whatever they want without consideration of the neighborhood and the streetscape of the historic district.

716 S. Oak Street

The five-bedroom house on Oak Street, built in 1922, has a red-brick Greek Revival facade, large formal rooms with arched doorways, a country-style kitchen with wide-plank wood floors and ceiling, and a wood-paneled library,

It's on nearly 1.4 acres, and the property includes brick and bluestone terraces and formal gardens lined with boxwood hedges. Above the garage is a guest suite.

Chicago architects Meyer & Cook, who designed the house, also designed the Laramie State Bank building, one of Chicago's finest art deco buildings.

419 S. Oak Street

One of Hinsdale's most notable, stately homes serenely set on 1.2 acres. Many updates have been made while preserving the architectural integrity of a house with a notable history, built in 1912. Stunning reception hall, gracious formals, sun room with fireplace, private office and a fully appointed kitchen with adjoining family room and butlers pantry. Amazing master suite with private terrace, walk-in closets and newer gorgeous master bathroom with separate shower and soaking tub.
