Quality of life - Reduce the flies

Quality of life - Reduce the flies
Why this petition matters
The village of Hewlett Neck is infested with flies, specifically black flies and horse flies. This infestation begins in June each year and lasts through August and affects most homes and streets.
During this three month period, the flies attack children, pets, and adults while they are outside of their homes or walking the streets. Worse so is the fate of homes with swimming pools as these flies are attracted to water.
It is our understanding that the culprit for allowing this infestation is the marsh on which Hewlett Neck is situated. As the marsh has fresh, still water with vegetation, it is a natural breeding ground for the black flies and horse flies. The marsh does not belong to Hewlett Neck and the village Mayor has indicated that the Town of Hempstead, the marsh owner, may not act to help the residents of Hewlett Neck.
The goal of this petition is to explain the magnitude of the quality of life issue caused by the flies and to get the Hewlett Neck Village Board to appropriate funds to finding a solution and lobbying the Town of Hempstead to accept the Village's proposal.
