We believe that keeping the Fort Simpson pool open all year round would have a positive impact on the community. The pool would provide, swimming lessons, recreational benefits, youth involvement, positive health benefits, jobs and much more.
Swimming pools are a great safe place for people to learn how to swim. Knowing how to swim can save your life; drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children. Swimming lessons help children to be safer near rivers and lakes. Swimming is also a skill that is needed for activities such as boating, canoeing, kayaking, surfing, diving, sailing, etc. A year-round pool would allow more people to take part in swimming lessons.
Exercise is a great way for people to stay healthy and happy. With six months of cold weather it limits the amount of exercise that people can get. A community pool that’s open year-round, no matter what the weather is, would help to solve this problem. A pool is a safe place for families to get exercise. It also provides a space for seniors and younger people from surrounding communities to share, socialize and have fun. Having positive activities for young impressionable people has a long term positive impact on their lives. A pool simply would make the community a more active place.
Long-Term Health Benefits and Rehabilitation
Pools are important because they help people stay healthy. Swimming is a great way to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight. It can also help to build up endurance and mobility. People who swim regularly have a lower chance of having strokes, type II diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Activities in water are low impact, therefore, people who suffer from chronic pain or physical disabilities are also able to get exercise in a pool. Having fun swimming can create positive memories and it can also help to reduce stress.
Jobs and Opportunities
In small towns jobs can be difficult to find. The pool would provide several different year-round jobs including life guards, management and maintenance staff. If the pool held swim competitions it would lead to increased tourism which would help support local businesses such as hotels, restaurants and stores. In addition, a year-round pool could help to attract professionals such as doctors and more.
In conclusion, a year-round swimming pool would have an amazing impact on our community. It would provide swimming lessons, recreational and health benefits as well as job opportunities. Thank you for taking the time to read and support our petition.
