The Illinois Holistic Addiction Treatment Center will change our community!
> 45 bed for-profit residential facility for substance and alcohol treatment of patients aged 18 and up living and sleeping in 2 buildings on the John Stewart Mansion property located at 526 N. Main St. (North end of town)
> With approximately 12 bedrooms in the dorm, patients will need to be moved from the dorm to the house daily year- roun.
WE DON’T BELIVE THIS LOCATION MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE FACILITY OR THE COMMUNITY:
> 2 studies show that local housing values drop an average of 17% when a treatment center is opened in a residential area.
> No background check on chemically dependent patients other than self-disclosure.
> The facility will be less than 500 feet from playgrounds and a ball field. Close proximity to pre-school, day-care and elementary school.
> For patient and neighborhood safety, it does not belong in a historic residential neighborhood, creating a strain on our EMS services as the closest hospital is nearly 10 miles away.
> New York Times Article dated 6.20.17 (New York Time Article) discusses that once a community allows a treatment center, the next steps may be sober houses based in that same community. There is no law that prevents them, but if you don’t have a treatment center, you, logically, have a lower chance that a sober house enters.
