Tim Elliott started this petition to Victorian State Government and

The government says that they are closing rural schools to "maintain a level playing field." This is outrageous as the system was never fair to begin with. City schools have had an advantage over rural schools for decades and yet the moment the roles are reversed it is deemed "unfair."

The priority of the government in this crisis should be to minimize harm for as many students as possible and yet the Minister for Education, James Merlino, has chosen to prioritize the scores of metropolitan students over the well being of thousands of rural students. Why should rural students be punished for the mistakes of selfish individuals in metropolitan areas while there is not a single active case in many rural areas?

How is it fair that while Melbourne was in stage 3 lockdown VCE students where allowed to continue attending schools and yet when rural areas are in stage 3 lockdown they are not?

Not only is it a disgrace to assume that the the VCE system has ever been an even playing field, it is unfair to suggest that closing rural schools will have an even effect on students as in the city. Many students in rural areas have significantly difficulty connecting to internet or have unreliable power, challenges that city students simply do not have to face.

If you believe this is unfair please consider sharing this petition and contacting your local parliamentary member.
