Friends of Karkarook Park started this petition to Victorian Government (specifics to be determined)
The Dingley By-pass has had the following detrimental effects upon Karkarook Park:
- Noise pollution levels along the walking track along the north boundary have increased dramatically
- Surveys in the park have documented a 40% reduction in the number of bird species since the opening of the by-pass
- Recent vegetation removal from the north boundary of the park has not only had a negative visual impact upon the park but has also caused a further significant increase in noise pollution to the park
The Opening of the Mordialloc By-pass will greatly increase the traffic volume which will further impact the park.
The value of Karkarook Park to the local community has been demonstrated as it is a haven for people in stressful times. In the last year alone park visitation topped 1,070,000 visits!
A sight and sound barrier between the northern boundary of the park and the Dingley By-pass would minimize the detrimental effects upon the this unique park and the people seeking refuge in stressful times.
We respectfully request that an appropriate sound and sight barrier be put in place.
