In light of the recent hit-run death of one Traffic Controller, and hospitalization of his colleague, I believe there needs to be a greater awareness of Traffic Controllers on the roads, by the general public.

Too often we have near misses, are abused for trying to maintain safety within our worksite for motorists, pedestrians and ourselves. We have had items thrown at us, been threatened and intimidated by disgruntled motorists who simply do not understand what it is we do.

There are many informative commercials highlighting Emergency Services and the need to reduce speed around them, but currrntly nothing exists to advise Joe/Jill Citizen of their responsibilities when they encounter signage, speed reductions and flashing lights of Traffic Management. Why? Are we not worthy of being safe too? We also go to work with the hope of being able to come home to our families after our shifts are completed. Some do not. It isn't good enough.

Please, consider an educational program or regular televised/ social media advertisements or both, as we are on the road. We are working, and we have the right to be safe at work, not jumping for our lives, or dying because the authorities have missed us as being important on the roads too.
