In the UK, lockdown sadly exacerbated experiences of domestic violence in the community. Domestic violence homicides more than DOUBLED during the lockdown (The Guardian, 2020).

With another lockdown imminent, we demand that the UK Government make available 20,000 hotel nights for the period of November through February and £1million in funding for Domestic Abuse charities to deal with the increased demand of an imminent lockdown.

The French Government rolled this out successfully in the initial lockdown, and we want the same protections to save people at risk. No-one should be locked in a home with an abuser.

'The French Gender Equality Minister, Marlène Schiappa said the government would pay for 20,000 hotel nights for victims and put in place approximately 20 counseling centers at stores across the country in order for women to able seek out help while they leave their home to run errands. The French Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner, announced on March 26 that victims of domestic violence could alert pharmacists if they are in danger. The government also plans on giving anti-domestic abuse organizations an additional 1 million euros ($1.1 million) in funds to help them manage increased demand for their services' (Times, 2020).
