Geoffrey Irwin started this petition to Victoria Airport Authority and York Realty

Sign this petition and say NO to The Victoria Airport Authority and York Realty’s proposed Distribution Warehouse in Sidney, BC.

Why?

1. Lack of Community Engagement - the VAA and York Realty has shown no desire to engage with the community and the surrounding municipalities for which its airport borders. No consultation has taken place with the residents directly adjacent the proposed development and no consideration has been given or offered to improving the surrounding transportation infrastructure.

2. Pressured Decision-Making - the VAA is making decisions regarding this development at a time when they are posting significant revenue losses putting them in a position to make decisions based out of necessity instead of through the lense of long-term growth and community benefits.

3. Complete Disregard to Development Guidelines including Setback, Lot Coverage and Building Height - this almost 500,000 square ft facility is not meant to fit on the proposed parcel of land. This is made evident by the VAAs own zoning requirements being exceeded astronomically.

4. Increased Traffic, Safety, and Environmental Concerns - employee traffic, delivery traffic, line haul traffic, supporting industry/ business traffic will increase substantially in an area that has already been given a failing grade in prior traffic studies completed by the Town of Sidney.

5. Light, Traffic and Business Operations Noise - lights from surface parking lot and raised parking structure, traffic entering and exiting the facility, fans and equipment operating on the proposed lands will all contribute to additional noise in the area.

6. Lack of Accountability - stand up against the VAAs gross oversight, ignorance, and short-sightedness.
