Our son, Tyler Dean, was killed in Hit and Run in 2017 and the killer driver was taken to Trial. The evidence of his guilt was overwhelming and yet, because we had a Prosecutor appointed who couldn't care less about him, they lost.

Our family did not have the option of choosing who was going to represent Tyler at the trial. In fact, we only met him for the first time on the first day of the trial. I was so concerned by his lack of interest that I begged him right there to stand hard and fast for Tyler as he was his voice now. He became offended an huffy and tried even less on subsequent days. 

After the Not Guilty verdict he actually said to our stunned family that at least the driver would have been having the worst week of his life expecting that he would be going to prison. Please read that again. 

If we had the choice of Representation then this prosecutor would not have gotten his foot in the door. Why are Victims treated so poorly yet the accused are granted all the rights? The right to choose their lawyer, the right to appeal if they dont like the outcome, the right to pretend like nothing happened if they are acquitted?

I am asking that Victims get the right to choose the best Representation they can to be a voice for those who dont always have one anymore. I ask that the Victims can appeal a Not Guilty verdict even once if there are clear concerns of Jury/Judge/Prosecutorial misconduct instead of hiding behind Prosecutorial discretion when the OPP fails to do their duty.

I hope you will help me stand for Victims in our Legal system as it appears that we are overlooked and underrepresented and it needs to change. We are the ones with the Life sentence after all.
