The bridge in Warrandyte leading out of the area is in urgent need of development to enable emergency service access to the area during bushfire events.
During rush hour there are long delays to get across the bridge due to a bottle neck that isn't properly managed, and the lack of necessary additional lanes. The long daily delays encourage commuters to illegally turn down side streets in an attempt to beat the traffic. Most of these side streets are narrow with blind corners and completely unsuitable for the volume and speed of these vehicles. There are numerous near misses with pedestrians and near head on collisions each week, making peak times very dangerous for children and families to access school bus routes on foot, and causes issues for residents attempting to enter or exit their properties safely.
The ridiculous thing is that the bridge updates have been designed and a contractor has been engaged by VicRoads, but 7 people in the local area who do not use the bridge are obstructing and delaying the process. The vast majority of the community want the bridge works to commence as planned.
We ask both Nillumbik and Manningham Councils to proceed with processing necissary planning permits without causing further delays, and VicRoads to stop entertaining the ludicrous objections by the 0.00079% of the community who will not even be affected by this change.
