Extend Benefits on VAWA to Sex Trafficking Victims

We are advocating for a new bill to help women who are survivors of sex trafficking. The bill being proposed is Federal Bill H.R. 3942: Housing for Survivors of Sex Trafficking Act. This is a federal bill that will assist women who have been victimized through sex trafficking. The goal of this bill is to amend the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 to include sex trafficking victims to be protected and assisted through the transitional housing assistance grant program (National Human Trafficking Hotline). After being a part of the sex trafficking system, individuals can struggle to become independent due to their perpetrator isolating them from a strong support system (Yung, Janna, Alvarez, Josefina, & McNeilly, 2017). Through this new amendment, victims can be counseled and evaluated to receive adequate placement.
