Child Safety first!
Crossing Manwood Road at the junction with Ewhurst Rd to gain access to the entrance of Prendergast Primary and Secondary school has become increasingly dangerous for the parents, staff and children and we need action! With over 1100 pupils on site this year and up to 180 more families joining before the Primary is full in 3 years time, the problem is only going to get worse.
As part of the planning process for the addition of a Primary school to the existing secondary school site, there was an obligation to provide appropriate road safety measures, including a crossing and a lollipop person. We still do not have this in place, 4 years after opening. Manwood Road is a busy commuter cut through to the south circular, especially at peak times and the recent installation of a extended speed bump has done little to help families cross the road.
There has already been one accident involving a child, and parents and staff are extremely anxious about something happening to a member of our community. The school has tirelessly attempted to get this addressed, and struggled to get any permanent solution from Lewisham Council on this, so its time for the parents and local community to try.
Please sign this petition to get road safety for our school actioned;
- A lollipop person on Manwood Road
- Railings on the corner of Ewhurst Rd to protect the corners
- Clearer, bolder signage to make drivers aware of a school on the road
