Black Lives Matter! Always! started this petition to Vicksburg City Council and

Recently, the Black Lives Matter movement has shone light on the racism behind using symbols of the confederacy in 2020. Symbols of the confederacy means that its values and ideologies still live on.

You might be asking yourself, what were those ideologies? If the confederacy would have one the civil war it would have meant more generations of slavery in the 11 Confederate States of America — cruel bondage for close to 4 million men, women and children. (via Baltimore Sun)

We are letting down the African American population of Vicksburg if we still keep this name on the street. There is no way to be a patriotic American while still supporting symbols of a short lived nation that America beat in the civil war. The confederacy stood for everything that America shouldn't stand for today- racism, prejudice and slavery.

We need to stop letting the confederacy live on in 2020! Together, let's urge the City of Vicksburg to rename this street into something that honors all of the African American lives lost due to racism in this country.
