THE PROBLEM:

The no. of Covid 19 cases is rising exponentially in India, with Delhi being one of the worst affected states. Naturally, a lot of students and teachers alike have fallen victim to Covid-19. They are either infected themselves or their family members are infected. How can they manage to attend classes and achieve the 75% minimum attendance criteria at the cost of their health? Is attending classes really the priority of those who are struggling to find oxygen, hospital beds, Covid-19 medicines for themselves or their loved ones?

Also, even those who are infected but not suffering from such extreme conditions, still have fever, weakness, and even body ache. How can they attend classes, complete assignments, and keep pace with the syllabus with so many health problems? Online classes require students and teachers to be hooked to the computer screen for at least 4-5 hours a day, in such a dire situation! And 4-5 hours is just the time of classes. To complete assignments and study, additional hours have to be spent in front of the screen as many students have not been able to buy their course books even and have to manage with the PDFs only.

Even teachers, who are infected have, to manage their household, care for their family members, and at the same time take classes. And of course, even they have to sit in front of the computer screen for 4-5 hours at least.

Students who are part of various college societies are working day and night to make their contribution to reduce the impact of this pandemic. Even they are having trouble in managing classes as well as society work, and many of them even have fallen prey to Covid-19 as well!

All of this is causing a great deal of mental as well as physical distress to students and teachers alike! Classes are not adding to their knowledge but only adding to their problems!

THE SOLUTION:

Delhi University has postponed the exams of 2nd and 3rd-year students. This news is welcomed by the DU fraternity. But, postponing exams is not enough. DU administration needs to suspend classes for the next 2-3 weeks at least by when the effects of this pandemic on those suffering, subside.

IT IS A SINCERE REQUEST TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF DELHI UNIVERSITY TO HEAR THE VOICE OF DU FRATERNITY AND SUSPEND CLASSES FOR THE NEXT 2-3 WEEKS. AFTER ALL, EVEN THE GOVERNMENT AGREES, 'JAAN HAI TO JAHAN HAI'.
