As a past post-graduate student, full-time lecturer, and committed arts educator, with work in many public collection in Australia, UK, Europe and the USA, I have a very clear and strong understanding of the extremely high quality arts education offered through SCA, over its many years of service in the community. SCA has always been a leader in arts education in NSW and Australia, with many graduates impacting the international arts world. It is imperative that SCA continues an independent course, unfettered by narrow political and business motives. To lose this extraordinary world class facility is to lose future opportunity. Closure will mean the loss of highly specialist facilities for studio-based practice, developed over many years, the loss of specialist academic and technical staff, and graduates who will impact future society. Shame University of Sydney. How can such an institution fail to recognise the outstanding value of SCA at Callan Park.

This is an appalling decision. It seems straight out of the Mike Baird handbook: no consultation, no transparency, total disregard for democratic processes.

What would happen to the SCA location if this goes ahead- I'd like to know.

It's impertanent that the University of Sydney immediately engage with student and staff representatives of SCA for a full and transparent consultation process regarding any proposed changes to visual arts education.

It is absolutely absurd that Sydney Uni wants to shut down SCA!! Stifling the artistic expression of emerging artists and abandoning studio-based practices in art education will drain the state of it's cultural vibrancy and integrity. I am signing because people need to understand that SOCIETY NEEDS ART and SCA is an immeasurably valuable refractor of its creativity.
