While much effort is currently underway to bring proper internet access of at least 50MBps to all households in Adjala-Tosorontio, as a basic right for all Canadians, there is currently no plan by Vianet to service the community of Sylvid Court and the adjacent stretch of Concession Road 5 in Loretto. The said community has a denser population than areas that are already currently being connected via fibre optics technology. The houses located in the neighbourhood are situated much closer together than regular rural properties and are ready to sign up for better internet the instant it becomes available.

Today, the only option available to us to have unlimited internet access is a 10MBps DSL line, which is not always offering the target speeds. All other wireless and satellite technologies are either not available or have unreasonable usage caps, effectively excluding them as viable options.

Proper internet access is essential for us to work from home, for our children to participate in school activities via videoconferencing. It is crucial to access government services, connect with family and friends via video messengers, have reasonable access to the news, enjoy streaming movies, or simply find and use services that we need.

A household with two adults and two children attending school, each of them requiring remote access (and especially so in the times of COVID), cannot be successful at 10 MBps speeds. We are thus denied our basic right of internet access, even though there is significant government spending to bring us good internet.

We petition to connect our community to a decent internet service to ensure we can live quality work, school and personal lives. We ask Vianet as the area service provider and the Town of Adjala-Tosorontio as guardians of our basic rights to consider this petition in a timely manner and connect us to the world!
