Adam Paulson started this petition to Lake County Board of Commissioners

On January 8, 2019, the Lake County Council voted to widen its prohibition on the discharge of firearms for south Lake County residents.  The councilmen, whom mostly reside in northern Lake County, that voted for in favor of the ordinance were:

  • Charlie Brown, D-Gary
  • Christine Cid, D-East Chicago
  • Dan Dernulc, R-Highland
  • Elsie Franklin, D-Gary
  • Christian Jorgensen, R-St. John

The new ordinance restricts the discharge of firearms for target practice to 700 feet from another residence without the written permission from the neighbors.

We all believe that firearms should be discharged in a safe and responsible matter.  There have been no reports of injuries or deaths in the result of target practice in unincorporated south Lake County.

On January 16, 2019, the Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. to either approve or veto the ordinance.

We ask that you please sign this petition to let the board know that you strongly disapprove of this ordinance. Along with signing this petition, please call their office to let them know, in a respectable manner, how you feel.

  • Commissioner 1st District, Kyle Allen, Sr (219) 755-3204
  • Commissioner 2nd District, Jerry Tippy (219) 755-3203
  • Commissioner 3rd District, Michael Repay (219) 755-3205
