In the recent board meeting, the PSJA ISD Board of Trustees approved a decision that states a new Baseball Practice Center parking lot is to be built where the Mighty Bear Band Practice Field currently lies. Not only will this impact the Mighty Bear Band, who has made the State Marching Contest and will continue to do so by practicing on the field, but also the many other student organizations who use the field year-round, not simply for one season. In addition, different marching bands have also practiced on the field, bringing light to the Mighty Bear Band. Prior to the construction of the BBOPAC (a nickname the hundreds of Mighty Bear Band students have given the practice field), the band would practice in the Fine Arts parking lot, which is a rather small and confined for a group of over 200+ students. The change of the practice field into a parking lot is not only unfair to the band program and other organizations, but it is a legacy and a place of growth and memories tore down.
